Traditional IT architectures struggle to meet today's rapidly changing business needs and the environmental dynamics of agile delivery models. With rigid structures and lengthy release cycles, these legacy architectures lack the flexibility and scalability required in agile organisations.
In this initial instalment of our three-part series, we explore the challenges of IT architectures within agile organisations and briefly highlight four common challenges associated with traditional IT architecture in the context of agile delivery models. Navigating the challenges of IT architectures in the era of agility is a complex task. Our approach clusters the challenges into four overarching IT delivery concerns, emphasising the importance of addressing them effectively. These include issues in process and adaptability, system integration and collaboration, performance and maintenance, as well as strategic and organisational challenges.
Notably, certain challenges overlap. For instance, limited collaboration poses a hurdle in system integration and collaboration and must also be addressed in a strategic and organisational setting.
